The first annual "Running With Friends" is a 5K run/walk race that will be held on Saturday, July 4th. It begins and ends at the Willamina Elementary School, located at 1100 Oaken Hills Dr, Willamina. The race will start at 9:00am and ends when the last person crosses the finish line, which will be on the WES track. (Race route will be added soon, but will be an out and back through down-town Willamina) Packet-pickup and day-of-race registration will begin at 8:00 and close at 8:45am. The fee for the race is $10 per person, or $15 for a family. There will be prizes for top male and female finishers as well as other goodies and prizes donated by local businesses.
From 8:45 until 11:00am there will be activities for children of all ages held on the field in the middle of the WES track. Volunteers from the Willamina Fire Department, as well as the Friends of the Library will be having a 4th of July celebration. Activities will include a softball throw event, 3 leg races, water-balloon activities, track & field events, and much more.
The Willamina Track & Field Club will be donating the following activities during the race at the kids events area: (They will be held on the far side of the track next to the long jump pits)
1. Long Jump attempts and instruction
2. 50 meter and 100 meter dash every 10 minutes
3. Discus toss attempts and instruction
4. Either a softball toss or high jump activity and instruction
Each participant can try any event, but if he/she completes each activity they will receive a special prize.
These activities are FREE and provided by The Friends through generous donations from our sponsors. Your children are welcome to play while you participate in the race and they will be there at the end to cheer you on as you cross the finish line. It will be healthy fun for the whole family to enjoy!
